Andrew McMorrine
Born in Scotland in 1948, Andrew has roots in Galloway, Glasgow and the Islands of Oransay and Colonsay. Argyll. He studied at Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1970 and subsequently living and teaching in Glasgow, South Uist and Skye where he was the head of the Art Department in Portree High School. Since leaving teaching in 2004, he has pursued his own work from his studio in Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye.
He has work in the Scottish Office, London, Edinburgh City Arts Centre, Western Isles Council, Highland Council, Grampian Council, Bank of Scotland and in private collections. He has curated an ongoing exhibition for The International Piping Festival Glasgow and is currently working on commissions, a one-man show and several joint exhibitions in 2017/18 in Glasgow, Colonsay, and London as an Assoc., of Soc, Graphic Fine Art. He is further involved in an exhibition on the commemoration of The Great War with Lanarkshire Museums Service. He was an invited artist for The Great Book of Gaeldom which is a major Arts council publication and touring exhibition celebrating both Irish and Scottish Gaelic poetry (8th – 21st Century) wherein the artists gave their interpretations of the poems. This exhibition has travelled within the UK, Ireland, Europe and the USA.
He has enjoyed a variety of commissions for book illustrations and was seconded for several years to the Bilingual Language Project and Acair Publications. the influence of the natural world, our landscape and vigour of our history are constants in his work whether in printmaking, drawing, painting or carving.
