“Highland Youth Arts Hub (HYAH), a project which aims to encourage young people across the Highlands to get involved with creative activity … anything from music, dance and drama to visual and digital art, film and creative writing.” – Highland Youth Arts Hub
From 2016, HYAH organised printmaking workshops with the Studio for young people with no experience. Each workshop was to welcome young people into the world of printmaking.
In the year of 2015, in April, the Studio ran two young careers taster workshops. One introducing the technique of etching onto steel and one covered linocut.
Through-out 2016-2018, the studio have offered a series of classes organised by HYAH. Including screenprinting classes for the Black Isle Youth Development, Inverness High school and Fortrose Academy. We also offered etching classes for a range of young people around the highlands which included Kinlochleven High School. We also got pupils from Drummond School, Inverness, participating in a Relief Printing class.
As part of the Highland Youth Arts Hub project, the Studio offered a series of summer schools aimed at upper secondary pupils, who may be looking at creating a portfolio for art school applications. Three classes, each four days long, took place. One covered etching on steel plates, and the other two focused on screenprinting. All classes were a great opportunity to really get to grips with the techniques. The students produced superb work.
In 2018, HYAH organised Hugh Miller inspired workshops with us. One workshop was for P5-P7 and the second one was for S1-S3. Both workshops were inspired by Hugh Miller who was a lifelong writer and storyteller, keen fossil collector – and much more! Inspired by his work, participants created outstanding screenprints. The work created was displayed to the public on 17 August 2018 as part of the LIVE! / BEÒ festival.
