Babs Pease
Based in rural Perthshire, Babs Pease is an artist/printmaker who uses a variety of printmaking techniques but specialises mainly in the relief print method. Hand carving and printing lino to create delicate single or multi-plate, limited edition prints.
Working in a studio converted from an old cowshed on a small farm north of Edinburgh, it is the beautiful flora and fauna of the surrounding countryside that are the main inspirations for her work. Most of her ideas start out as sketches made on long rambles in Perthshire or on the coastal paths of Fife. Starting with a rough idea of the overall design she likes to draw directly onto the lino which helps to maintain a sense of movement and vitality. By using thin layers of overlaid ink, her aim is to create luminous translucent prints. Her linocut prints are printed in her studio using an 1876 Albion relief press.
